Hi I have managed to get copies of my grandfathers army service from the MOD records department. He was a driver for the RASC from 1939 to 1945, he was evacuated from France in June 1940 and returned to Europe in April 1945, his units are shown as 4 GHQ ARTY, and 912 COY GT, is there anywhere i can find out any more info on these units, or what kind of vehicles he may have driven ?? Thanks Mike

The only hope that I am aware of is the National Archive at Kew. Sheer guess work but probably drove AEC Matador or Leyland Hippo in the heavy trucks, or any one of the multitude of makes in lighter vehicles from Jeep up to 3 ton. 4 GHQ ARTY sounds like a heavy artllery unit forming part of the reserves of the army, 912 Coy GT sounds like a unit employed fairly well back from the front lines in a supply role to army or corps level. It could have carried just about anything !
