Ladies & Gentlemen,
I am looking for any information which anyone might have about my late uncle, Arthur John SHENTON who joined the RCT as a junior leader c 1964/65. We believe that he may have served in the maritime branch for a number of years, before going onto work at the Marchwood US Army facility and thence to Portsmouth, where he worked for the RMAS as a seaman in the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Arthur died in late March/early April 1991 at the age of 42. At the time, he was living in Southsea.
We lost contact with him in the mid-late 1960's and from what we know he lived in Southampton for much of that time. Ironically, in his final years he and I possibly cross-paths (as I was a serving seaman officer in the RN, at times base-ported in Portsmouth) but were completely unaware of each other.
We understand that he was married to a lady called Maggie (possibly O'Brien) for a number of those years. I don't know if he had children at all.
Any information from any of his colleagues would be appreciated. I realise that this may seem a bit of a cold-case, but now that many of his contemporaries are of retirement age, it is not inconceivable that they may have time to share their memories.
Thank you
Tom O'Connor
