Hi, Trying to trace my father's service during WW2 from his service records but need a bit of help adding detail to the MOD records. He did leave a few notes we discovered after he passed away a few years ago but rarely spoke to his family about his war years - like so many veterans.
In 1944 he was a L/Cpl driver and motorcycle despatch rider with 709 GT Coy RASC whilst serving between Jan '44 and Mar '45 in the uk and then in Normandy (landing a few days after D-Day) and surrounding areas with the Canadians.
After that time he was sent to Cairo and luckily for him did admin duties at HQ up until July 1946, before returning to the UK and being assigned to 11 Per Sect in Inverness until being demobbed in Aug 1947. We understand he may have carried on admin duties there as well but I am unable to find out what some of these units/companies were actually involved with. This posting is simply listed in his records as "T.O.S. and posted to BK. Off. Inverness wef 26 Mar 1947 Authy : D1/G/53/10 of 19 Mar 47' if that helps anyone.
Any help or pointers of where to look for more info would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you
