Can anyone help please? I am enquiring about my father-in-law, now deceased, Dennis Arthur Holohan. We know very little about his service in WW2 as he would never talk about it, but he received a certificate from King Olav of Norway for his contribution to the Liberation of Norway, 8th May 1945. On the back is written the following (I think):
' RASC 3 cp (GT)' and then numbers 14424694
If anyone knows anything I would be very grateful!

Hi,
The RASC (GT) refers to General Transport, the number could be his regimental number. He took part in a multi force action designed to liberate the country mentioned in the note.
Hope this helps.

The eight digit number is most certainly his service number. An enquiry to army records in Glasgow might get you the information you are looking for. They may ask for proof of your relationship.
