I am hoping someone can help my research into my Grandfather's army service. His name was John Ruddock and he served in 649 company RASC. I have his service file which tells me a great deal but there has been a family tale (not propagated by my Grandfather who never spoke about it) that he was one of the first people in to liberate Bergen Belsen concentration. If anyone has any knowledge of 649 company's involvement with Bergen Belsen I would really like to hear from you.
Not sure if this helps as the detail is small, my Dad was in the RASC and he said that the RASC was one of the 1st into Belson. As your Grandfather he has not spoken of this much, Dad is ill now but I will try to get his company number. My wife and I visited Beson about 10 years ago there is a visitors centre there now, we viewed a film when we were there and mentioned it to Dad he described bits that were in the film. This is the first time I have been on this site and I will try to return. John Cooper
