I am trying to get information about my late father John Caine in WW2. From a photo showing his cap badge I am told he was in the RASC. I know he drove lorries and was attached to the 8th Army in North Africa and Italy. At Arezzo he was commended for an act of gallantry, was in Tobruk, Libya, Egypt and other parts. I have a photo showing NCO's of No. 2 Platoon and on the back is the names and nick names of the men, my dad was Stooge 1! I don't know the date or where it was taken. I also know that he was able to transfer his brother Stan (christened George Stanley Caine) into his unit at a chance meeting towards the end of the war. At one stage he did have to escort a POW on a train, would this be the Military Police or was that part of RASC duties? My father rarely spoke about the war and sadly died in 2001. I would now like to try and rekindle these memories. I have written to the relevant department at the MOD with limited information but could have a long wait to find anything out. If anybody can help or add anything at this time I would be very grateful.
