I am trying to get information on the RASC expedition to North Africa on 12 November 1942 and events thereafter. Can anyone help? My father was John Ballantyne Steele from Harthill Lanarkshire.

My father (Jack Lee T/99974)was in RASC and had the Africa Star, I am lead to believe he was an ambulance driver with 51 HD but the ambulances with the 51st HD were RAMC not RASC, He escaped from France on 18th June 1940 from St Nazier. Records for the RASC during this period are vague to say the least, the diary for 3 ambulance car coy ends in June 1940, so no good there. There are large gaps in his service records, apparently ¡lost' by the war pensions office. wish I could help but finding it hard myself.

Have since found there is a 1941 diary WO 166/4881 covering Nov and Dec 1941

I have Mr.Howard Dunn making enquiries about 7 Coy RASC from 1947, he was in Africa and would love to hear from anyone from that era, he also may be of some help to your enquiries.
