I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of information on what RASC were doing in Palestine in the late 1940s, and whether I might potentially be able to get hold of service records (assuming not on the service records). I believe a family member was killed whilst serving with RASC in 1948 in Palestine. The family story goes that he was on a train that was bombed - a story which seems to be backed up with reports in the Times archive. I need to get certificates to confirm he is the right guy, but I think this was my grandfather's nephew: www.veterans-uk.info/amf2/roll-of-honour.php?SerialNo=X161

Thanks for that info, I'll have a look into that.
I have now received the birth certificate that confirms that this Herbert Ronald Jones was my grandad's nephew. However, as he was killed in action, I don't know how I'd get a death cert (if indeed there even is one). He's not coming up on the UK registers at least. Something to be investigated further in any case!
Many thanks!
