Hello my father was a prisoner of war in the Japanese camps, he passed away in 1961, he never spoke much about his time in the Army and recently I have had an urge to retrace his Army career. To date I have found out that he was in the Royal Engineers then transfered to RASC. The only thing I have at the moment is his service no. 2137728, Dvr. date of capture 15/02/1942. His name was Thomas Mead he was from Lancashire. If anyone new him please get in touch.

Have you tried to obtain his service record? This should give you some information. As you are looking for WW2 records and you are a direct descendant have a look at, www.veterans-uk.info/ under service records, this will tell you how to apply. You shouldn't need the SAR form.
