A few years ago I inherited my Grandfather’s medals. I would like to get them framed and feel it would be nice to have some information on his service to put with them. I know the following information:
• He was called Kenneth H Miller • His service number was S.69421 (can anyone tell me what the S. stands for?) • He served in the RASC • He defiantly reached the rank of Cpl (I have a feeling he left as a SSgt) • He was in the TA
He has the following medals (in no particular order):
• The Defence Medal • The War Medal 1939–1945 • The Efficiency Medal (with territorial bar). • The Italy Star • The Africa Star • The 1939–45 Star
I have a vague understanding of where he served but would like to know a bit more, like what Coy he was in for example. If anyone could point me in the right direction of where I should start looking I would really appreciate it.
Kind Regards
Huw Miller

Huw, A good place to start would be to apply for your grandfathers service record, have a look here www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.htmlYou will need the certificate of kinship form, download, print off, fill in and send off, you won't need the SAR form. Please be aware that not all records survive and it can be a while before you hear anything. I believe the "S" stands for supply as indicated elsewhere on the forum. If you get stuck send a PM, Aland
