You are dead right about the change of lanyard. It changed to the plaited dark blue at the same time of the badge change from RASC to RCT.
At the same time the whole thing went to pot!

Yes, it was changed. We were lumbered with the Royal Engineers one. Not only did we lose the rank of 'Driver' but I lost my brass RASC cap badge to a souvenier hungry CSM who confiscated it because it was polished almost flat! Ah! such fond memories!

xbigtrux why do you say every thing went to pot when the RASC split into RCT, ACC, RAOC etc., I served in the RCT from 76 to 83 and I always found it worked well?

The lanyard was indeed dark blue but I was in Horse Transport section at Beaumont Barracks,Aldershot and we wore the Royal Artillary white lanyard on the opposite side to the blue one.apparently it was because in some years gone by,the horses belonging to the then transport company, pulled the artillery guns from the front line because the Royal Artillary horses couldn't do it for some reason. We were then allowed to wear the white lanyard, instead of the blue.I served with H Sqn.R.C.T. Horse Transport from 1967-70.when it was disbanded.

We were always told JLR 1986/87 Colerne that blue lanyard was because RA dropped short on our troops so we got theirs and they got WHITE? BUT my Great Grandfather was ASC during WWI and has a clearly white lanyard?
