I have just recieved a copy of my grandfathers record of service and have found that he served with the RASC from 1940 through to 1943. His name is Henry Arthur Day and his Army no was T150672. I guess this means that he was part of the Transport side of RASC and meant that he drove the vehicles. I am trying to make sense of his ROS and would be glad of any help trying to find information on where he would have served during this time and if anyone could shed some light on who 54 Div ? Coy and 534 AM Coy would have been and where. Also does anyone know what Attested, Deferred and Embodied mean please. I really hope someone can help me out. Thank you.

I think 54 Div was the East Anglia Division, although it might only apply to WW1, have a look here: wapedia.mobi/en/List_of_military_divisions_by_number?t=7.#7. AM Coy could be Ammunition Company, "Also does anyone know what Attested, Deferred and Embodied mean please." Can you enlighten us as to what context this is written in please? ie , citation or other quotes.

Hi Thankyou for getting back to me, I will check that website and see if it ties up loose ends.
In respect to the Attested, Embodied, Deferred - his Record of Service has along the very top stamped 'Deferred Embodiment'.....and then down in the Military History Box it has: -
Attested: 12.1.1940 - 12.1.1940 (length of service 1 day) Deferred: 13.1.1940 - 16.1.1940 (length of service 4 days) Embodied: 17.1.40 - 23.9.1943 (length of service 3 years 250 days)
Hope this helps and thanks again for your help.

Hi There,
I was just wondering how you managed to get the service record of your grandfather?
I want to get my grandfathers as all I know about him is that he was a POW in Stalag 344 and was a driver for the RASC.

Rich Please be aware that not all records survive as some were destroyed in the war. If you are looking for WW2 records as you are a direct descendant have a look at, www.veterans-uk.info/ under service records, this will tell you how to apply.
