I posted some information a year or so back (see below). I am keen to trace the port detachment in question and wondered whether regimental records might be the best bet and, if so, where I might find them? Of course, if anyone knows of an online source that would be wonderful.
I have traced my father's military records and have found that he was called into action with the RASC. Having been to the 12th Training Bn he was then with the 32 Port Detachment from November 1944 to November 1945. I would be very grateful for any information on the location of the training battalion and, in partiuclar, the role and activities of the 32 Port Detachment.

D. lott: Can I suggest that you contact the RLC Museum at the address below: The Royal Logistic Corps Museum The Princess Royal Barracks Blackdown Road Deepcut, Camberley Surrey GU16 6RW Tel: 01252 833371 They hold a number of records such as letters, photographs, diaries, manuals, maps, personal documents, Corps Journals and some unit histories. You need to contact them in advance if you wish to visit and view any of these items. They can also offer a research service, although there is a small charge for this. For more info on the museum see www.army.mod.uk/rlc/history/349.aspx I hope this helps.
