G M CORFIELDHello all im in need of help, Im searching for my Grandads best friend from the army in WW2. All i know about him for sure is that in June 1942 he was 19 1/2 Years old and lived in/had family in Darley Dale, Berkshire. I have a photo of him but no scanner at the moment (Will put up as soon as I can). I believe his name is G M Corfield (90% sure? Grandads writing?!?) I think he died somewhere in Belgium but no idea when or where!
My grandad was called Augustas David Elen, born 1920. He was in the RASC from about 1942 - 1945. I have his army number and am waiting for his records. He went to Africa & Europe and was attached to the 8th Army as a driver, again no year. I think Corfield was with him for most of it.
If anyone has any information on him (or even the ELEN family!!!) pPlease let me know!!
Thanking you Claire Elen

Have you any photographs of your grand father in Africa? My father was in Alexandria from 1942 to 1945, I think that most troops for the middle east went the long way round by ship. Does anyone in your family remember him telling them the name of the ship he sailed out on? Or do they remember which port he embarked from. What is now Suez used to be called Port Tewfik. The Support organisation in Egypt was vast, with workshops and supply depots.
