Hi, new here, my son wants to see if he can get information on my Fathers war records, we do not have his Service Number, I know he was in the RASC as I had a postcard from him during WW2, think it was from Italy, on top of this card is '839 coy RASC [GT] G M F.' I also have a piece of paper with his Campaign Stars, Clasps and Medals, but sadly no medals, the date on this paper is 1939-45, can anyone help me as to where to start, much appreciated.

Hi there, I too needed the same info as you re my late dad who was a general transport (GT) driver in N. Africa then Italy. I got fantastic results including his service number and various coys (companies) he served with starting from initial training in UK thru embarkation to N. Africa. Have a look at: Army Disclosures (Family members), 65 Brown Street, Glasgow G2 8EX Tel: 0845 600 9663. Fax: 0141 224 3172. Email: disc4@apc.army.mod.uk I now have his full service record, including injuries and field hospitals where they fixed him up then put him back behind the wheel no less than 3 times. Not expected was his discip record gained in Trieste just prior to his demob in 1946...one of which really made me smile: 14 days CB + loss of his treasured l/cpl stripe which he earned 4 months into his service. Offence: using a military vehicle, 1 ambulance for his own use without authorisation....(Come on boys, let's go down the pub!) The only info I could give them to initiate their search was his full name and dates of birth and death plus the various forms incldg kinship. What a result ! I'm now trying to trace his exact movements via unit daily diaries which are held in the Military Archives at Kew. Best of luck
