I an trying to get information about my gt grandfather, Wiilliam Edwin Stonyer who was first a Quartermaster, then Captain, in the RASC.
I know he was in the ASC, later RASC, between 1911 and 1913 in Ireland decommissioning the base at Curraun. I believe he had his wife and family with him, and that one of his children was born there.
In November 1913 he went with his wife and family to China, and spent much time at Tientsin, before returning back to Blighty in 1920.
I would appreciate any information on the Irish camp or about the work and lives of the ASC/RASC in Tienstin arount the times mentioned. I am led to understand that Chiang Kai-shek was in the honour guard for the wedding of one of William's daughters to Lesley Donald Modget and would love to be able to confirm this.
Regards
David Dewick
