My Dad served in WW2 as a Driver, his number was T/264908 R.A.S.C. Does that mean he served in this Regiment? He told me he landed just after D Day and his job was to deliver food and ammunition up to the lines. He didn't say too much about it, but he said towards the end of the war he drove a Brigadier. He said he was one of the lucky ones.
I would be grateful for any information, and was this his Regiment?
Thankyou Ellen

Anyone serving with the RASC had one of two prefix letters on their army service number,to denote which of the two main branches they were with, either 'T' (transport) or 'S'(supply) so I would say that, yes,he served in the regiment.

My Grandfather was Driver Charles George Rowland No. T/75497721. We are looking for more info as to where he may have been based during WWII. Could anyone point me in the right direction please??
We know that he has various medals - Palestine, France & Germany Star, 1939-1945 star, The Defence Medal if this helps anyone.
Thanks THAM1973

aland - many thanks for your suggestion. I have applied for his service records and then will contact the RASC museum to see if they have any further information. I understand that the museum at Deepcut holds a lot of info about WWII RASC service.

He also did the run between Vilac and Calais transporting Troops going on leave. His release papers were stamped at Kensington Barracks on 27th Nov 1946. Unit 83 COY My Father is 90 years old this year and would He like to hear from any surviving Army Pals, unfortunately the only name he can remember is Harry Green last known from Leytonstone. My Grandfather was a driver in WW2. I have just received some letters that my Grandmaother wrote to him during the war and they are addressed to 93rd Company RASC (Airborne Division Comp.). He was in Arnhem and north Africa but I don't know much else. I wonder if anyone on here could shed any light on any other locations he might have been in.
His name was Henry Victor George Featherstone. He died in 1991 aged 83 he lived all of his life in the East End of London.

My grandfather served with the RASC T/167136 Andrew Wilson Goodwin, he was a dispatch rider and was sadly killed in a motorbike accident in Egypt, North Africa 28/12/1941, aged 25. He is placed to rest in Helopilos War Cemetery, Cairo, I plan to visit on his 100th birthday 25/05/2016 I have his military records, he joined up 1937 RA(TA) and was transferred to RASC 1940. He was awarded The Defence Medal, 1939-45 Star, The Africa Star & The War Medal. It was a pleasure reading other Posts of relatives whom have also served in The RASC.

My mother was Austrian and sadly passed away when I was 18 months old, I am now 42 and have taken over all the paperwork from my father who has alzheimers. In the paperwork was my mother's birth certificate and it shows my grandad as Mr Reginald Close RGL No. T/14677580 Dvr R.A.S.C - He married my Austrian nan and had my mother on 31st February 1948 in Klagenfurt Hospital in Austria. I don't know what happened to my grandad as by the time I was born my nan was married to another man and lived in England. I have looked on various sites for deceased service personnel but his name doesn't come up on any of them so he may still be alive, Major S.F Frost 25 Company R.A.S.C (G.T) was the informant and the officer registering the birth was W.I Buchanan Capt. S/C on my mum's birth certificate. If anyone knows of anyone in this unit or knows where I could get any more information please get in touch, Thank you Helen
