I was wondering if anyone could help me please, I am doing my family history and I know that my grandfather served with the Army Service Corps in WW1. I have managed to get a copy of his medal index card and this shows a victory and british medal, I understand that this means he would have been posted after 31 Dec 1915 to a theatre of war probably France. I have tried to get a copy of his full records from Kew but alas they were part of the 75% that were destoyed in WW2. His regiment number was T4/059359 which I also understand indicated that he was in the horse transport corps which would add up as he worked on the land.
Despite many years of looking I have not been able to find out any info on where he served for my father (his son). When he died in the 1950's a Royal Army Service Corps ASSOCIAION badge was found in his effects therefore I can only assume he was a member. Looking at your list of area's the most local one to his place of death would be Chelmsford, Essex and the one local to his birth place and where he returned after WW1 would be Norfolk. Can anyone tell me if you would hold any type of records please.

As far as I'm aware no records are held, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'am wrong. Have a look here www.1914-1918.net/ search the site you may find more here. You might like to try this site www.army.mod.uk/rlc/history/351.aspx Please note this is postal only. Or here www.armymuseums.org.uk/ancestor.htm. A few ideas. A long shot, but have you tried looking for an obituary in a local paper? it might say if he served in a specific regiment. Have you tried the local historical society, County archives, both relevant to the Counties he may have resided in. Try the London Gazette www.london-gazette.co.uk/for any awards or citations he may have recieved. Any surviving relatives you can contact for details. Good luck with your reserarch.
