My Dad did his National Service in the RASC at Salamanca Barracks, Aldershot in 1950/51 when he spent much of his time living and working close to an asbestos lagged boiler in the medical centre. He has since been diagnosed with Mesothelioma (cancer caused by exposure to asbestos) and is now terminally ill.
Does anyone remember this boiler or is anyone suffering from the same illness who was stationed at Salamanca Barracks? Our family would be grateful for any information at all we could obtain as proof that this boiler existed. My Dad's name is Geoffrey Dean, his Service No was 5/22/90469 and on leaving National Service he was a Lance Corporal. We would be interested to hear from anyone who might remember him.
