HOUNDSTONE CAMP - YEOVIL Well to introduce a deviation I wasn't actually in Norton Manor Camp but I was with the RASC not a stone's throw away; Houndstone Camp in Yeovil where I was one of the first RAOC types to be trained by the RASC as a Staff Clerk. This would have been about 1965 and I remember that there were some splendid guys from the Taunton area on the same course. Cannot remember any names but do remember a little WRAC officer who had a degree in Zooology - most appropriate we thought, for an Army career. I was at Houndstone camp Yeovil in 1964 doing driver training but was medically discharged after losing the use of my right little finger .still got what's left of it to this day. Anyway does anyone remember a Corporal Daukins who was our drill instructor at bulled barrack's Aldershot in 1963, before our pass out parade. What a guy I worked with S/Sgt Keith Dawkins at Regents Park Barracks and later at Buller Barracks in 1974. Keith was not only the best drill instructor but also a great guy.

Just found this on the web just looking and thought to type in RASC J/Ldrs. I was in Borden and Norton Manor 1959/1961, became a Conductor RAOC and eventually retired as a Major. I think most of the lads did well for themselves during their various careers and well done to them all. It was good to see some of the names I knew, Bobby Bowrah and Clive Walch to name a couple. Long time ago. good luck and health to everyone.

I was at Norton manor in the Junior Leaders . From1964-1966. Spent many a happy youthful time there . Was there about 6months and had the ceremony of changing Cap Badges from the R.A.S.C. To the R.C.T. My mother and Father came down also for my Passing out parade , when I then joined the Regular Army. Was posted from there to I think 23 squadron RCT. Marchwood No. Southampton? Spent about a year there and then was posted to Leibenau near Neinburg in Germany. Spent 4years there at 12 Squadron RCT , was in RHQ. troop and done lots of Tours along East /West German Border in the COLD WAR.From there posted to Bahrain in the Persian Gulf for 1 year. 1970-71. Then posted to SHAPE Headquarters in Mons Belgium. Met my future wife Julie who was a WREN Switchboard operator there. Was there about 2years. Then married , moved back to England, and spent last couple of years has a P.S.I. At 221 field Ambulance RAMC. (TA) unit at Kingston on Thames . Came out in 1975 . Had a good life in tha services.

I was not a junior leader, but I am looking for someone who was. I was in training in Aldershot RASC training August 63 with a Samuel[lofty]Williams/Williamson. I have been making enquiries about him for many years with no joy. Any help would be much appreciated.
